Linguistics Olympiad by qUALMS at State

About LOqUS

LOqUS is an in-person linguistics olympiad featuring two tracks: High School and Undergraduate. Participants will compete in both group and individual exams, testing their knowledge across various linguistic topics including phonology, morphology, syntax, and more.

Competition Format

Group Exam

8 hand-written questions to be solved in teams of 2 people

  • Phonology (2 questions)
  • Morphology (2 questions)
  • Syntax (2 questions)
  • Extra/Rotating Topic (2 questions)

Individual Exam

Multiple choice questions to be solved individually

  • High School: 45 MCQ
  • Undergraduate: 60 MCQ
  • Same time limit for both categories
  • Questions cover all topics

MSU students have the registration fee waived. Registration includes lunch, snacks, and drinks.
